Example 4: Realistic EL Accumulation for Mid-Year Joiner (July 1, 2026)
This example shows EL accrual for an employee joining mid-year with reduced eligibility threshold:
| Month | Working Days | Days Worked (Cumulative) | EL Accrued | EL Available | Calculation |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| July (1st Month) | 22 | 22 | 1.10 | 0 (locked) | 22 ÷ 20 = 1.10 |
| August (2nd Month) | 22 | 44 | 2.20 | 0 (locked) | 44 ÷ 20 = 2.20 |
| September (3rd Month) | 21 | 65 | 3.25 | 3.25 (unlocked) | 65 ÷ 20 = 3.25 |
| October (4th Month) | 22 | 87 | 4.35 | 4.35 | 87 ÷ 20 = 4.35 |
| November (5th Month) | 21 | 108 | 5.40 | 5.40 | 108 ÷ 20 = 5.40 |
| December (6th Month) | 22 | 130 | 6.50 | 6.50 | 130 ÷ 20 = 6.50 |
| Year 1 Total | 130 days | 130 | 6.50 | 6.50 | 130 ÷ 20 = 6.5 |
Eligibility Note: Mid-year joiners must work one-fourth of remaining days in calendar year. For July 1 joiner: 184 remaining days ÷ 4 = 46 days required. This threshold is met in September (65 cumulative days), at which point all accrued EL unlocks for use.
Important Clarification: The 6.50 days earned in Year 1 carries forward to Year 2. In Year 2, the employee will need to work 180 days (full year threshold) to access both carried-forward EL and newly accrued EL. This is standard practice per OSH Code Section 32(1).
Note: Year-end fraction (0.50) typically rounds to 1 additional day, resulting in 7 days total earned in Year 1. This EL carries forward to next calendar year.
SL/CL Allocation Note: Sick Leave and Casual Leave are credited at 1 day per month during monthly salary cycle (typically by 7th of every month). For employees joining on July 1 (before 15th), first SL/CL credit happens during July salary processing. If an employee joins on or after 15th of any month, allocation begins from the following month.
