Example 3: Realistic EL Accumulation Based on Actual Working Days
This example shows how EL actually accrues based on working days (1 day per 20 days worked):
| Month | Working Days | Days Worked (Cumulative) | EL Accrued | EL Available | Calculation |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| January (1st Month) | 22 | 22 | 1.10 | 0 (locked) | 22 ÷ 20 = 1.10 |
| February (2nd Month) | 20 | 42 | 2.10 | 0 (locked) | 42 ÷ 20 = 2.10 |
| March (3rd Month) | 23 | 65 | 3.25 | 0 (locked) | 65 ÷ 20 = 3.25 |
| April (4th Month) | 21 | 86 | 4.30 | 0 (locked) | 86 ÷ 20 = 4.30 |
| May (5th Month) | 22 | 108 | 5.40 | 0 (locked) | 108 ÷ 20 = 5.40 |
| June (6th Month) | 21 | 129 | 6.45 | 0 (locked) | 129 ÷ 20 = 6.45 |
| July (7th Month) | 23 | 152 | 7.60 | 0 (locked) | 152 ÷ 20 = 7.60 |
| August (8th Month) | 22 | 174 | 8.70 | 0 (locked) | 174 ÷ 20 = 8.70 |
| September (9th Month) | 21 | 195 | 9.75 | 9.75 (unlocked) | 195 ÷ 20 = 9.75 |
| October (10th Month) | 23 | 218 | 10.90 | 10.90 | 218 ÷ 20 = 10.90 |
| November (11th Month) | 20 | 238 | 11.90 | 11.90 | 238 ÷ 20 = 11.90 |
| December (12th Month) | 22 | 260 | 13.00 | 13.00 | 260 ÷ 20 = 13.00 |
| Total | 260 days | 260 | 13.00 | 13.00 | 260 ÷ 20 = 13 |
Eligibility Note: EL becomes available after working 180 days. In this example, 180 days is reached in September (195 cumulative days), at which point all accrued EL unlocks for use.
Important Clarification: Employees are NOT required to consume all accrued EL immediately after it unlocks. EL carries forward to the next calendar year (up to 30 days maximum). In this example, if the employee doesn't use the 9.75 days by December 31, it carries forward to next year along with any additional EL earned in October-December. This prevents operational burden and allows employees to plan leave usage throughout the year.
Note: This example assumes 260 working days in the year (typical for 5-day work week). Actual working days vary based on public holidays, weekly offs, and leave taken. Fractional EL accumulates and credits when it reaches 1 full day.
SL/CL Allocation Note: Sick Leave and Casual Leave are credited at 1 day per month during monthly salary cycle (typically by 7th of every month). For employees joining on January 1, first SL/CL credit happens during January salary processing. If an employee joins on or after 15th of any month, allocation begins from the following month.
